Eastern Suburbs Ferry

Journey on the EASTERN SUBURBS ferry

The sun draws you up to the top deck. A salty breeze sends a hat overboard but the owner replaces it with a laugh. Local craft try to keep pace. You sit back and wave. You’re in no hurry. History flashes past. Shall we stop at the Heritage Centre at Garden Island? Maybe on the way back. It’s market day at Double Bay and organic appetites need to be seen to. Heads swivel and stare at the million-dollar mansions nestled among the winding streets above Darling Point. Strangers grin. We’re living like millionaires right where we are now. Crowds disembark at Rose Bay and head towards the fine dining found near the water. We’ve arrived. Bags are gathered and heads counted as we step onto Watsons Bay’s wharf and straight into foodie heaven. Sated, we seek the perfect beach, passing on the nudist Lady Bay and heading for Camp Cove, the locals’ favourite. As the shadows move in, we turn for home. And reflect on why we don’t do this more often.
