Beyond the Wharf was established in early 2014 in response to a question the ferry crew are regularly asked by customers – “Where is somewhere good to go on a ferry in Sydney today?”
The Ferries have crossed the Harbour for over 140 years, connecting locals and visitors to the nature, people and communities of Sydney. Beyond the Wharf takes this role further by providing information of what’s happening around the harbour today as well as local history and many fascinating stories about the people who live and work here.
Beyond the Wharf invites everyone to Discover, Experience and Share the secrets of Sydney Harbour through ferry travel and foreshore experiences on #beyondthewharf and @beyondthewharf.
Many of the recommendations on Beyond the Wharf have come from the ferry crew and locals who live, work and enjoy themselves around Sydney Harbour. We feature local faces. From local café owners to directors of major festivals. We also showcase some of the best emerging artists, Sydney Harbour’s Aboriginal heritage and the best major and local events around the Harbour. Within the site you’ll also find some great stories about many of the Ferry Crew and Shipyard workers who keep your ferries running every day.
If you have a recommendation for a great local event, young artist, café or piece of history, we would love to hear from you.
